Tips to Save $

It's not Cool When Your AC's Not Cool!

What do you do before you call Ed's?

  • Check to see if the circuit breaker is tripped to the outdoor air conditioning unit
  • Clean dirty filter indoors and dirty coils outside
  • Check for failed components in the outdoor unit
  • Now it's time to call Ed's!

Ed's Spring/Summer Tips for Conditioning Your Air Conditioning!

  • Caulk, weatherstrip and insulate all outside windows, doors and attic areas
  • Do hot work, such as washing and drying clothes, baking and cooking, during the morning and evening hours
  • Pull drapes and shades over the windows facing the sun.  And, keep windows and doors closed!
  • Set the thermostat to the highest comfort level.  Each degree raised reduces energy consumption by 3% to 4%.  Some thermostats can be set to automatically increase or decrease for daytime/nighttime differences.
  • Clean or replace air filters on a regular basis.
  • Keep your outside unit clean and clear of leaves and other obstructions.  Service the air conditioning unit each spring by a certified technician for peak energy efficiency.  Better yet, consider Ed's year 'round maintenance agreement with service provided by a certified (NATE) technician.

How to "Zone Control" Your House Without Zone Controls!

  • Close the air registers on the level of the thermostat at least three-quarters of the way, forcing more cool air into the upstairs while not increasing your AC load.  Also, close the registers all the way in seldom-used areas.
  • A programmable thermostat can save you time, money, and hassle.  They are easy to install and automatically adjust temperatures based on your schedule.
  • Also, these thermostats have separate programs for heating and cooling, so you will not have to remember from season to season what temperature was most comfortable for you!

Ed's Fall/Winter Tips to Save You Money

Here are several steps you can take now to save on energy this heating season:

  • Dirt and neglect are the #1 cause for system failure. Have your system tuned up to save money and assure efficient operation. Click Here to Schedule.
  • A programmable thermostat allows you to use less energy without sacrificing comfort. Simply set to adjust the temperature 5 to 10 degrees at night or when you are away. Once set correctly, you can save up to 20% a year in energy costs. We have ones that are easy to use.
  • Replace your furnace filters more often during the heating season. Clogged filters force your blower to work longer and use more energy.
  • Not all filters are created equal. More folds provide more area for air flow. You can get good replacement filters from Ed's. Click Here to Request Your Supply. And you always get a FREE filter replacement with your tune-up.
  • Insulate and seal any gaps in your air ducts. This can reduce your energy costs by 20 to 30 percent.
  • Replace your old unit before it breaks down on a cold night. You'll be able to make a better choice.
  • Choose higher-energy-efficient units. Properly sized and installed equipment ensures that your new system performs like it should. Ed's asks you questions about your house, windows and insulation. We measure and do a load calculation for your unique system design. It's the only way to ensure a quality installation.
  • Do you heat with fuel oil or propane? You could reduce your energy bill by 30 to 40%. Changing over to an electric heat pump system or geothermal quickly pays for itself in three to four years.
  • Have all gas appliances, including your furnace, checked to assure proper and efficient operation
  • Make sure your home is properly humidified so that you'll feel warmer at a lower temperature
  • Be sure you home is properly winterized to prevent heat loss and excess cold air infiltration
  • Lower your thermostat setting or get a programmable thermostat
  • Our 45-point Precision Tune-up will help put your heating and cooling system back to factory specs.  Our techs can correct energy-wasters and even health risks.  Click Here to schedule your 45-point Precision Tune-up for just $149 ($247 for oil systems).
  • Replace your old unit if it is 10 to 12 years old.  Even if your furnace is just 10 or 12 years old, the benefits of replacing it with a new, high-efficiency model are terrific!
