Ed's Spring/Summer Tips for Conditioning Your
Air Conditioning!
- Caulk, weatherstrip and insulate all outside windows, doors and attic areas
- Do hot work, such as washing and drying clothes, baking and cooking, during the morning and evening hours
- Pull drapes and shades over the windows facing the sun. And, keep windows and doors closed!
- Set the thermostat to the highest comfort level. Each degree raised reduces energy consumption by 3% to 4%. Some thermostats can be set to automatically increase or decrease for daytime/nighttime differences.
- Clean or replace air filters on a regular basis.
- Keep your outside unit clean and clear of leaves and other obstructions. Service the air conditioning unit each spring by a certified technician for peak energy efficiency. Better yet, consider Ed's year 'round maintenance agreement with service provided by a certified (NATE) technician.
How to "Zone Control" Your House Without Zone Controls!
- Close the air registers on the level of the thermostat at least three-quarters of the way, forcing more cool air into the upstairs while not increasing your AC load. Also, close the registers all the way in seldom-used areas.
- A programmable thermostat can save you time, money, and hassle. They are easy to install and automatically adjust temperatures based on your schedule.
- Also, these thermostats have separate programs for heating and cooling, so you will not have to remember from season to season what temperature was most comfortable for you!
